It is unclear exactly when and why the Big Walnut Country club ceased operation. By 1970 the land was owned by the City of Gahanna, who opened Friendship Park as its first city park in 1971.

Into the 1960s other LOCATIONS and venues around Gahanna continued to host festivals, organizations, and events similar to ones held at the Big Walnut Country Club.
